Institute presentation
FCRB was created to manage the research activities of Hospital Clínic i Provincial de Barcelona (HCPB), one of the best hospitals in Spain. Since HCPB allows its medical staff to carry out research for FCRB, HCPB can be considered a third party of FCRB "Making available its resources to a beneficiary". FCRB has a strong track record of working in European projects, especially within the Framework programme. The European Project Office has a team of dedicated specialist staff to deal with the submission process, negotiation stages and technical and financial management. In FP5 this office dealt with 29 projects, one of which was coordinated and in FP6 this office dealt with 42 projects, eleven of which are coordinated. FRCB is also coordinating 20 projects in FP7.
Our scientific production is very high. In the year 2009, we published 840 original articles, many of which were collaborative studies in which different teams joined their investigative efforts. The actual impact factor of each article is 4.62. The global impact factor for the journals where the abovementioned articles have appeared is 3.87932 points.
The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department headed by Dr Josefina Castro is one of the bigger and reference departments of children and adolescent mental health in Catalunya and Spain. It assists patients in the outpatient clinic and in partial and acute hospitalisation. It leads research activity in Catalunya in OCD/TS, Alimentary disorders, Affective disorders, Psychotic disorders and neurodevelopmental disorders. The OCD/TS Unit headed by Luisa Lázaro is a clinical–research reference unit for other local clinical centres and for the Tourette Foundation, which is the main patient association of tic disorders in Catalunya. Our department is also involved as a beneficiary in two Collaborative FP7 projects: PERS and STOP. The FCRB PI Astrid Morer has extensive clinical and research experience in paediatric tic disorders and OCD, with a focus on the role of autoimmunity/inflammation in psychiatric disorders, specifically in OCD and tics, and she is actually the reference clinical doctor for patients with tics and TS in our department.
