Region Hovedstadens Psykiatri -The Capital Region of Denmark is one of five administrative units in Denmark. The region provides healthcare, mental healthcare, regional development and research for 1.6 mio. people – approx. 30% of the Danish population. The Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Centre at Bispebjerg, covers the municipalities of Copenhagen city centre, Frederiksberg and Bornholm with a total child and adolescent population of 108,935. The centre has 4 inpatient units (30 beds). Most patients are treated as outpatients (approximately 12,000 outpatient contacts/year). Joint Commission International has accredited the centre since 2002. The Centre has a broad outpatient clinic, seeing patients with neuropsychiatric disorders, such as TS, ADHD and OCD up until age 18 years and the centre has a regionally specialised function for the diagnosis and treatment of TS. The study will be a collaborative effort together with the centre for TS that is located at the Department for Paediatric Neurology at Glostrup Hospital. The TS clinic in Glostrup (relocated to Herlev Hospital in the Capital Region of Denmark) was funded 15 years ago with a clinic for children (0-15 years of age) and 5 years ago expanded to include a clinic focused on young people with TS (focusing at the age range of 15-21 years). The clinic follows at the moment approximately 700 patients aged 5-21 years with approximately 400 having comorbidities, such as ADHD or OCD. The clinic has a multidisciplinary treatment approach including physicians, social workers, nurses and a psychologist. Moreover, it will be relevant to recruit children of adult patients with TS, which will be in cowork with the Department for Neurology at the Bispebjerg Hospital, which has a regional specialized responsibility for patients with movement disorders and follows at the moment approximately 130 adults with TS. We also have excellent relations to the Danish TS society, which will actively help to recruit children without tics of families with one member who has Tourette syndrome.
